The mechanical industry has the characteristics of high industrial relevance, large demand elasticity, strong driving and promoting role in economic growth, and great contribution to national accumulation and social employment. The course of economic development in industrialized countries shows that without strong equipment manufacturing industry, it is impossible to realize industrialization, modernization and informatization of national economy. At present, the lagging development of equipment manufacturing industry is an important factor restricting China's economic development and industrial upgrading. To strengthen structural adjustment and promote the sustainable, healthy and stable development of machinery industry is of great and far-reaching significance for changing the mode of economic growth, improving the overall quality of the national economy, enhancing the international competitiveness of China's economy, and ensuring national defense security.

During the Tenth Five Year Plan period, with the full implementation of the third step strategic deployment of the national economy, the machinery industry will enter an important historical development period.
